Ovos U’Bonim

In 1998 Ovos U’vonim International took a grassroots program which had started in Gateshead, England and launched it as a global movement. The premise was simple — every motzei Shabbos, in shuls across the world, provide an organized framework in which fathers spend one hour learning Torah with their sons.

The benefits are mind-boggling. Frenetically busy fathers carve out an hour to spend with their sons each week. Children thirsting for love and attention blossom. The primacy of Torah study in the life of every Jew is underscored through example.

The GGBH proudly participates in this important learning scheme every Motzei Shabbos. Technically, the learning usually takes place during the winter, as Shabbos goes out early, so families are able to come along to shul after Shabbos to learn.

Several years ago, after requests had been made, the GGBH decided to also implement a summer learning program. This is held Shabbos afternoon in the shul, as otherwise it would be too late to learn for the youngsters once Shabbos would go out.
